Laser hair removal

If you're not happy with shaving, twee zing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal is your option.

Laser Hair Removal Procedure. LHR is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to remove

unwanted hair from all parts of the body. The laser device works by emitting pulses of light

energy that penetrate the skin and destroy hair follicles while the device’s hand-piece cools the surrounding skin. Because the laser needs to fill the hair follicle to work effectively, it is

important not to wax, tweeze, have electrolysis procedures or pluck hair for 2-4 weeks prior to the procedure. You will be required to wear protective eye glasses during the procedure to protect your eyes from the laser light. You may feel a slight burning, stinging or pinching sensation during the procedure.

It generally takes 10 to 21 days after the procedure for the treated hair to fall out. Treatment of dark course hair generally achieves the best results while removal of light fine hair generally requires additional treatments which may or may not be successful.

Clinical results of LHR may also vary depending on individual skin type, hormonal levels and

hereditary influences. Therefore, some patients may experience partial results and some maynotice no improvement at all. Future hormonal changes may cause additional hair growth.

LHR procedure generally involves a series of treatments. Ideal (light skin/dark hair) candidates can usually achieve 65%-90% reduction with a series of 6 treatments. Thicker skinned areas such as mens backs, faces or neck usually require more than 6 sessions and usually achieve only partial reduction or hair thinning

Benefits of laser hair removal include:

  1. Precision. Diode Lasers will selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.

  2. Speed. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.

  3. Predictability. Most patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to seven sessions.

What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal ?

Just before the procedure, the area undergoing treatment will be shaved and if required a local anesthetic is applied .

You will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. This will help the laser light penetrate the skin.

Next, the machine is set with appropriate setting and laser energy is given to the treating area using hand held probes of appropriate size. Treatment area is watched several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions.

When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort. You may schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. You'll get treatments until hair stops growing.

Recovery and Risks

For a day or two afterward, the treated area of your skin will look and feel like it's sunburned. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help. If your face was treated, you can wear makeup the next day unless your skin is blistering.

Blisters are rare but are more likely in people with darker complexions. Other potential side effects are swelling, redness, and scarring. Permanent scarring or changes

The cost varies widely, depending on factors that include:

  • Size of the area being treated and time required for treatment

  • Number of treatments required
